The new Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered stepped out into the world with a surprise release on April 22, quickly finding a sizeable audience. The Elder Scrolls series is one of gaming’s most beloved franchises, and the remastered version of the 2006 title brought a wave of hype in its wake.

Making use of our Release Stats and Statistics tabs on the Games page, Streams Charts has collated the viewership results for the debut of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, quantifying its livestreaming popularity. Powered by our extensive database, explore the opening viewership for the new Oblivion Remastered.

Since TES IV: Oblivion Remastered’s release, it has received 18.62M Hours Watched (HW) on Twitch, with 13.74M HW of this coming from its opening week. It was overwhelming broadcasted by English-language channels on the purple platform, with roughly two-thirds of its release week watch time coming from this audience. Not only did the launch receive a significant amount of viewers, but streamers were also keen to get their hands on the new title: in the opening days, 5.7K Peak Channels were recorded for the game’s category.

The opening two days of Oblivion Remastered’s release collected a large chunk of its watch time, roughly 6.5M HW. Compared to other singleplayer game launches, Oblivion Remastered also maintained a strong viewership in the final days of its opening week. While viewership naturally tapered off from the initial peak, it maintained well over 1M HW each day up until April 30.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was the fifth-most-watched game on Twitch, outperforming Valorant, Fortnite, and Minecraft.

On the opening day of release, 463K Peak Viewers (PV) tuned in to see what the fuss was about or to relive their old memories of Cyrodiil. Viewership was boosted on the opening day by broadcasts from top streamers Juan “IlloJuan” Alberto García, Michael “shroud” Grzesiek, and Saqib “LIRIK” Ali Zahid, all of whom enjoyed a significant boost in viewership from the wave of hype around release.

Since the opening week, other top streamers like Zack “zackrawrr / Asmongold” Hoyt, Koseki Bijou Ch. hololive-EN, and Jesse “MOONMOON” Rathburn, have also tried out the game on stream, bringing their own personal audiences to the fantasy land. Zackrawrr, otherwise known by Asmongold, was the most popular streamer since release, having received over 56K PV for his stream on May 1.

The surprise launch of TES IV: Oblivion Remastered took many by surprise, but they were still quick to check out the title on stream and get their favorite streamer’s impression of the remaster. With millions and millions of Hours Watched on record, the remaster received a warm welcome from the livestreaming community.

During recent years, many remasters, rereleases, and reimaginings of our childhood classics have taken center stage in the gaming industry. To contextualize Oblivion’s result, Streams Charts has collected the viewership results of other recent game remasters and rereleases which took the Twitch scene by storm.

At the top of our selection, the Resident Evil 4 remaster debuted in 2023 and was one of the most popular game releases of the year. The fourth edition is a favorite for many fans of the series, and with each release — Resident Evil 2 (2019) and Resident Evil 3 (2020) —  the Resident Evil series has continued to build a reputation for strong, polished remasters. In total, Resident Evil 4’s remaster received 21.58M Hours Watched, far outperforming other releases from within and outside its franchise.

The new remaster of TES IV: Oblivion performed similarly to strong competition among game remasters. It received roughly the same opening week viewership as the PS5 exclusive and launch title Demon’s Souls (2020), and outperformed remasters of other classics such as Dead Space (2023), and more modern, mainstream remasters such as The Last of Us Part I (2022).

TES IV: Oblivion Remastered’s unique surprise release helped it gain an immediate advantage over the competition; the game amassed huge viewership on both its first and second days of its launch, and it continued to enjoy viewership from various, but largely English-speaking, top streamers throughout the following weeks.
