American streamer Kai Cenat has become the first creator on Twitch to surpass 20 million followers — and he achieved it in less than five years since launching his channel. What’s even more remarkable is that Kai hit this historic milestone despite not streaming on Twitch at all for the last six weeks.
Kai Cenat is one of the biggest stars on the platform. Along with holding the follower record, he also holds the all-time record for paid subscriptions. His streams often feature high-profile guests, including major celebrities like Kevin Hart, Ice Spice, Drake, Lil Uzi Vert, Kim Kardashian, Mariah Carey, and John Cena. These guest appearances are especially common during his “Mafiathon” events and other special broadcasts.
And despite all the celebrity moments, Kai still puts plenty of focus on gaming content — he’s already completed several games alongside Darren “IShowSpeed” Watkins Jr, the popular American YouTuber.

In September, Kai Cenat launched the massive Mafiathon 3.0 — a month-long, nonstop livestream aimed at breaking the all-time record for paid subscriptions. Throughout the marathon, he took on all kinds of viewer challenges and welcomed a long list of celebrity guests. At one point, Linkin Park stopped by to perform a live concert on stream. And on the final day, Kai and his friends wrapped things up by taking a basketball lesson from NBA legend LeBron James.
Kai’s most recent broadcast was on September 30, the final day of Mafiathon 3.0. That stream set a new peak viewership record for his channel — more than a million people tuned in to watch LeBron James give him a haircut live on stream.

After wrapping up Mafiathon 3.0, Kai announced that he’d be taking a break from livestreaming to rest and recharge before working on new projects. It’s been about six weeks since fans last saw him go live, but even with the break, his channel remains the most popular on the entire platform.
