RTA in Japan is one of Asia's premier speedrunning marathons, held twice a year in summer and winter. It mirrors the structure of the American Games Done Quick marathons and shares similar charitable objectives, but is specifically tailored for an Asian audience. The Summer 2024 edition aimed to raise funds for the international nonprofit Doctors Without Borders. By the end of the final day, the event had successfully raised approximately 11 million Japanese yen (about $73,700), marking one of the most successful fundraising outcomes in the history of RTA marathons.

RTA in Japan Summer 2024 set a new record as the longest marathon in the event's history, with over 146 hours of total airtime. Not only could viewers watch the games online, but they also had the option to attend the event in person at the venue in Chiyoda; several hundred people attended the event over the six days.
The marathon was streamed on two channels: the Japanese channel rtainjapan and the French channel lefrenchrestream. The Japanese channel dominated the audience reach, while the French channel had a relatively minor impact. Between August 9 and 15, rtainjapan emerged as the top channel on Twitch for total Hours Watched, significantly outperforming its closest competitor, streamer Hasanabi, whose viewership was three times lower. Among the top 10 channels, the Japanese speedrunning marathon attracted more viewers than streams from well-known content creators such as Caedrel, Gaules, Kai Cenat, and Tarik.

The most popular title at RTA in Japan Summer 2024 was Super Mario 64, drawing over 85,000 Peak Viewers simultaneously. Elden Ring followed closely, with more than 76,000 PV tuning in. Approximately 81,000 people watched the speedruns of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Pokemon Red/Blue.
