Stream World Championship recap: TheGrefg partnered with Adidas to create a unique event

Content creators are always looking to create or organize spectacular events. Some of these competitions reach a wide audience, entertain thousands of people from all over the world, and even enter the history books, by breaking some viewership records. In 2022 we had plenty of contests with those characteristics, with many of these being sports tournaments. Events such as La Velada Del Ano 2, Eleven All-Stars, or GP Explorer, are among the five most popular events of the year.

This weekend yet another giant sports tournament, organized by a big content creator took place. We are talking about the Stream World Championship, which was organized by Spanish megastar TheGrefg, with Adidas sponsoring the event. It was a football tournament that took place in Spain, more specifically in the Benito Villamarín stadium, and gathered some of the biggest content creators from, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Portugal, Colombia, and France. Streamers such as DjMaRiiO, boumesamaWestCOL, strakatvSoyPan, Move_Mind, and many others participated in it.

Every one of these countries formed a team of content creators all ready to represent their homeland. The teams were then divided into two groups of three, with the two best teams of each group moving into the knockout stage. Viewers from all the countries were very excited to see some of their favorite streamers in action, with fans watching the event for 2.6 million hours, and 141K Average Viewers tuning in regularly.

Normally, the further an event progresses more viewers tune in since the stakes start to get even higher. But in the case of the Stream World Championship, it was the other way around. 355K Peak Viewers watched the group stage match of Colombia vs Argentina, while the grand final between Spain and France, which saw the hosts win 3-0 and revenge their loss in the Eleven All-Stars, peaked at 305K viewers. Despite that, the final day had a higher number of Average Viewers, with 150K AV.

Most popular Twitch streams of 2022 so far

Stream World Championship was a success. It was a unique event that entertained thousands of viewers, and reached a wide audience, as we can see by its viewership numbers. However, if we compare it with the most popular events of the year, knowing that four of them are sports tournaments, we can see it's very far from the astonishing viewership numbers they were able to reach.

Eleven All-Stars was a very similar event. It was a football match that had France vs Spain, and only content creators participated in it. Despite all the similarities the two events had, the tournament organized by French streamer aminematue was much more popular. It had an astonishing 244% more Peak Viewers, and 148% more Hours Watched

Despite not having spectacular viewership numbers, the Stream World Championship was still a success, and a unique tournament. It brought together popular content creators from six countries, but to play football and not to just make content. As of the time of writing, it's among the ten most popular streams of November. With the event being well received by the viewers, we can expect a second edition of the Stream World Championship in the future.
