After a mind-boggling third quarter for Twitch content creators that involved records and events galore, the final three months of 2023 were a lot more sedate. However, the big names still ensured to find spots on the various top ten leaderboards that have been compiled by Streams Charts for Q4.
Most watched Twitch streamers in Q4 2023
The leader in this table is fps_shaka, who continues to arguably be the most famous and followed Japanese name on this platform globally. As usual, most of his 26.25M Hours Watched was spent playing Grand Theft Auto V, especially its new role-playing server — VCR GTA — released in the second week of December. In fact, it attracted a lot of attention from top content creators in Japan, including well-known YouTubers.
Second is Kai Cenat, 2023's undoubted breakout Twitch name who reaffirmed his status as a bonafide superstar on the purple platform by ending the year as its most-watched creator. Just Chatting continued to be the American's go-to genre, taking up over 75.5% of his watch time during this three-month phase. What helped make his numbers remarkable was his participation in the record-setting Fortnite OG season and its major live event, The Big Bang, which saw attention from many prominent names.
Coming in third is ibai, the Spanish celebrity who is arguably the biggest name in the Hispanic community when it comes to live broadcasting across streaming services. Having been number one on all three metrics in the third quarter, thanks to the then-record boxing show event La Velada del Año III and the start of the new splits of the Kings and Queens leagues, the KOI co-owner slowed down towards the end of 2023, seeing his watch time decease almost in half.
Brazilian megastar Gaules is next as the only Counter-Strike-centric influencer on this top ten table. The only other game where his watch time crossed a million was Night of the Dead, as he was busy covering many of the renowned season-ending tournaments in Valve's legendary shooter.
Rounding off the top five is zackrawrr, the channel of famous World of Warcraft content creator Asmongold, who also co-founded and co-owns the streamer organization, One True King (OTK). As one of the oldest and most recognizable faces in the streaming scene, his views and comments are taken with the utmost respect by most of the community, meaning he continues to stay relevant with his coverage of numerous video games and topics related to gaming culture.
Sixth is IlloJuan, the second Spaniard here, making it the second-most successful nation on this table. While Just Chatting remains his forte, he also spent a lot of time in Q4 playing Pokémon Community Game and DayZ. His popularity in the former was apparent at the Pokémon TwitchCup 3, where he ended as the most successful streamer and remains historically in demand among viewers.
加藤純一です (Kato Junichi) is seventh with 15.99M HW, thanks to his love for playing a variety of titles, including Valorant, Apex Legends, and DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Dark Prince. Despite being one of the older entries on this leaderboard, the Japanese has earned his place having emerged as one of the undisputed stars on Twitch in his homeland.
Jynxzi, who has seen a recent surge in his following thanks to his dedication to creating the best content on Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, is eighth. The American's collab streams with the likes of Kai Cenat have further added to his fame, with his outspoken and gregarious personality winning many fans.
The fastest-growing German content creator, Papaplatte, takes the penultimate spot. He was a relatively unknown quantity until the start of 2023 when he exploded in popularity and saw his viewership numbers notch amazing growths. This ensured he ended the year as the second-most-watched internet star from his country after finishing outside the top 50 in 2022.
Last but not least is ファン太 from Japan, tying it for most appearances on this leaderboard alongside the USA at three each. As another massive GTA V proponent, his presence at number ten puts a neat little bow on this list that also starts with a name in the same game from the same country. That he makes it here despite not playing any roleplaying servers recently is a testament to his ability to attract fans of the game whenever he is on air.
Most popular Twitch streamers in Q4 2023
This table, which gives an idea of the episodic success of broadcasters on the Amazon-owned live broadcasting site, has a few names who also made the above table. It is led by ibai, whose 691K PV was 80% lower than his Q3 figures, but then again, the latter was a platform record, so comparisons are unfair. The 28-year-old hit this number when live broadcasting the Ballon d'Or 2023 awards function that saw Lionel Messi win a record-extending eighth-best player gong.
Kai Cenat and zackrawrr are the two other names to pop up for the second time, which only reinforces their following among ardent users of Twitch. The former's December 14 stream featuring rap star Nicki Minaj also ended as his most popular one of all time, while the latter's November 3 coverage of BlizzCon helped him make the top ten. In fact, the star creator had a great fourth quarter, with seven of his channel's most popular videos ever coming during this period, including two from the annual gaming convention held by Blizzard Entertainment.
XCry is the first fresh name here, as he takes the second spot with 624K PV and makes it a Spanish one-two at the top of the podium. The Guadalajara, Mexico, resident was helped massively by two streams alongside rumored partner Yeri Mua, a famous influencer in the Central American country. These two videos, including the record one from October 27, became his two most popular live broadcasts ever and put him on the charts as one of the breakthrough names of 2023.
American Fortnite icon Ninja is third, thanks to his return to the game for the highly successful OG season update. This particular live stream came during 'The Big Bang' live event on December 2. In fact, this Epic Games builder shooter took up almost 85% of his entire watch time over the final three months of last year.
Next is luquitarodriguez, the Argentinean who is known for his live streams of multiple Special Events across 2023, which became especially prominent in Q4. In fact, it was one exhibition from this genre on December 21 that ended as his most successful ever, with his coverage of the Parense de Manos, an amateur boxing event among influencers held at the Luna Park in Buenos Aires, netting him 400K-plus peak concurrent viewers.
Another Spaniard, Rubius, is sixth, making him the third member of the elite 10M-plus followers club on Twitch to appear in this top ten standing. His main game was Fortnite, as he was fully immersed in its incredible ride back to the first season, and, like Ninja, its season-ending event was when he reached this peak figure.
Nix, the Russian with the most presence on the purple platform, takes seventh place thanks to his extensive coverage of The International 2023’s Grand Final between Team Spirit and Gaimin Gladiators. Countryman buster is tenth thanks to his live coverage of SLAY 2023, an awards function that brings together the best of the country’s content creation industry.
The final name is MontanaBlack88, the most followed German Twitch streamer. The December 17 live broadcast of the Christmas event he hosted attracted over 200 colleagues and influencers at the site and became his most successful ever.
Most popular Twitch streamers by Average Viewers in Q4 2023
The best metric to assess just how popular a particular influencer is encompasses all kinds of content genres from the gaming and non-gaming segments. Leading the charge is Kai Cenat — the only one to accrue more than 60K AV between October and December — followed by the Spanish duo of ibai and IlloJuan.
Two more names crossed the 40K AV mark — Nix and auronplay. The Russian played a major part in his native language being the most popular language at Dota 2's world championship — The International 2023 — as it improved on its peak concurrent numbers by 16.6% compared to the 2022 edition.
Readers must note that this ranking only includes streamers with over 100 hours of broadcasts in the third quarter of 2023. As a result, British Minecraft star WilburSoot, who hit 42.5K AV over just four and a half hours of airtime, was omitted from the top ten. However, credit must be given where it is due, and his stats prove why he is one of the most beloved creators in his favorite game and one of the stars of the future.
