The popularity of a streamer can be evaluated not only by the number of viewers but also by other parameters, such as the number of subscribers to their channel. Streams Charts has summarized the results of the first quarter of 2023 and determined which Twitch streamers received the most subscriptions during this period, and how much money they earned from subs.
The most popular Twitch streamers based on the number of subscriptions
It's important to note the distinction between the number of subscriptions and the number of subscribers. For example, a viewer may purchase three monthly subscriptions to the same channel in a quarter.
Streamers from North America lead the rankings
The most popular streamer in terms of the number of subscriptions is the American creator Kai Cenat, who gained over 370K subscriptions in the first quarter of 2023. The majority of these came during his 28-day Mafiathon marathon in February, during which he gained over 300K subscriptions, setting an absolute platform record.
In second place is the Canadian streamer xQc, who gained 141.4K subscriptions. xQc has a high number of subscription renewals, and he is also the leader of the platform in terms of the number of Prime subscriptions.
Jynxzi took third place in the streamer rankings, with his channel gaining 117.3K subscriptions in the first quarter of 2023. He focused almost exclusively on playing Rainbow Six Siege in his streams. It's interesting to note that the majority of his subscriptions were new or gift subscriptions, thanks to a subathon he held in March.
HasanAbi, a popular streamer from the US who usually streams in the Just Chatting category, where he discusses global news, politics, and major events, came in fourth place. His channel gained 99.2K subscriptions in the first quarter of 2023.
Turkish streamer Jahrein rounded out the top 5, with his channel gaining 94K subscriptions. It's worth noting that he was the leader in the ranking for the number of Tier-3 subscriptions, which are the most expensive subscriptions on the platform that usually give viewers additional bonuses in the form of exclusive icons, badges, and emoticons.
In the second half of the rankings were Eliasn97, Gaules, Tumblurr, IlloJuan, and JLTomy. The number of subscriptions to their channels is not very different, ranging from 81.9K to 91.4K. However, some streamers stand out from others. For example, IlloJuan leads in terms of the percentage of Prime subscriptions out of the total number (82%). French streamer JLTomy is second only to Kai Cenat in terms of the number of gifted subscriptions (51% of the total).

The most popular Twitch streamers by estimated Income
Incredible result from Kai
In the first quarter of 2023, Kai Cenat earned around $927.8K from subscriptions, which is the highest result among all platform streamers for the selected period.
Overall, it should be noted that the rankings by the number of subscriptions and the estimated revenue from them do not differ much. This is because most of the top streamers represent Europe and North America, where the cost of subscriptions is almost the same. At the same time, in other countries such as Turkey or Brazil, the cost of subscriptions is significantly lower.
Because of this, Jahrein and Gaules made it into the subscription rankings but not into the revenue rankings. The position in the revenue rankings is also influenced by the type of subscriptions a streamer's channel receives. For example, NICKMERCS had fewer total subscriptions than Auronplay, but he ranked higher because he had more expensive tier-2 and tier-3 subscriptions.
