Charity streams are quite a common thing on Twitch, therefore it was only a matter of time before some of the popular streamers decided to host one for Ukraine. On the 21st day of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, an American streamer and a member of the OTK streamer group Nick “Nmplol” Polom hosted a charity fundraiser for a Ukrainian relief fund.
In six hours of broadcast, the fundraising stream, which was preplanned and held in partnership with the international humanitarian organization CARE, raised over $134,000.
Besides Nmplol and his girlfriend Malena “malena” Tudi, several other OTK members appeared on the stream, including Cyr, Emiru, and Esfand. Furthermore, the stream featured multiple real-life challenges and giveaways, with rewards including PlayStation 5 and signed OTK merchandise. In addition to the remarkable proceeds, the event also attained notable viewership numbers.
Nmplol’s charity stream for Ukraine attracted 29K Average Viewers, who generated over 181.64K Hours Watched. The broadcast peak appeared just before the end of the stream when 51K concurrent viewers spectated the lube slide challenge. Some of the other activities shown on stream were Borscht cooking and Nmplol dying his hair to match the colours of the Ukrainian flag.
In total, more than 126.28K Unique Viewers tuned in to the Nmplol’s broadcast. The most used emote during the broadcast was a variation of Pepe the Frog meme with Ukrainian flag — 3% of all the words in chat during the six-hour stream was ‘peepoukraine’.
Two more charity streams for Ukraine are scheduled for today — a 13 hours-long stream by the not for profit organization Women in Games which starts at 12AM CET, and the League of Legends charity tournament hosted by esports organization SK Gaming, which is set to kick off at 8PM CET and will be broadcast on the Twitch channel of the event’s caster Troubleinc.
