New Race to World First event boosts World of Warcraft to the most-watched Twitch game

New Race to World First event boosts World of Warcraft to the most-watched Twitch game

World of Warcraft’s Race to World First is back, this time for the newest raid, Amirdrassil, the Dream’s Hope. Race to World First events see World of Warcraft guilds be the first to defeat the newest raid, and the ongoing Amirdrassil race will be the final new raid until The War Within arrives in 2024.

With this being the last chance for enthusiasts to have their names recorded as the World First until 2024, stakes are high for the top guilds from around the world to perform at their utmost best.

Maximum makes the bold prediction about the progression of the event

The final new Race to World First raid of 2023 began on November 14 on the North American servers, and on November 15 on the European servers. At the time of this article, November 17, Instant Dollars is the leading guild in the Americas, with six of the nine required bosses defeated.

Across the pond in Europe, Honolulu is leading the charge for their region, with 4 of the 9 bosses under their belt already.

In the four days that have passed since the Race to World First event started, World of Warcraft has become the most-watched game on Twitch. The game has moved up from 7th in this metric, during the four days prior to the event start. Comparing these two periods, World of Warcraft has generated 44% more Hours Watched since the event began

With so much going on so quickly, viewership for World of Warcraft is quickly growing on Twitch, and with the Streams Charts Game page our PRO users can directly analyse the viewership statistics for the game on Twitch.

So far, World of Warcraft has generated 35.4M Hours Watched this month. If viewership for the remainder of this month remains stable, November will become the most successful month of the year for World of Warcraft watch time. Our PRO subscribers can sort for weekly data of games and categories on Twitch, making it even easier to analyse what effect Race to World First has had on viewership for the game.

Race to World First Amirdrassil has had some immediate effects on the viewership for the game; World of Warcraft has recorded its highest Peak Channels of 2023, with 5.29K concurrent channels broadcasting the game on Twitch. Not only are more and more streamers interacting with the title, but there are more viewers to go around for these streamers too: Viewers Per Channel reached 71, a record for 2023 so far.

With so many viewership milestones being met for the game on Twitch, let’s look at some of the most influential live-streamers in this wave. Maximum, the Guild Master for the Liquid Guild, is the most-watched creator since the Race to World First event began. The American co-owner of the famous guild earned 1.44M Hours Watched across the past few days.

Many of the other top guilds were represented in these rankings. Echo_Esports reached 1.32M HW on their official Twitch channel, and TeamLiquid reached 430K HW while supporting their own guild. GingiTV, a member of Echo Esports, reached 334K HW, falling just behind Method, whom he previously represented in World of Warcraft esports.

Although many top competitors and organisations involved with Race to World First dominated the most-watched channels, streamers not affiliated with the event also reached the top 10. Zackrawrr, sodapoppin, Mizkif, and EsfandTV managed to all rank within the top 10, however, these creators were able to accumulate so much watch time because of their general popularity.

Maximum got jinxed while making some forward progress

These four aforementioned creators did not cover the new raid race event but rather streamed their own experience with World of Warcraft, which is obviously popular with OTK members at the moment.

Using the Languages tab on the games page, PRO users of Streams Charts can analyse the language distribution of various metrics for a selected time period of any game on Twitch. Here, we can see viewership spiked on November 15, and that English was by far the largest contributor to this peak.

The Race to World First Amirdrassil event still has quite a big left to offer the WoW community. Instant Dollars are currently the leading guild, with 6 of 9 bosses defeated. Early leads in Race to World First events can be highly advantageous, and other guilds have their work cut out for them to catch up. Will Echo Esports or Liquid Guild be able to catch up?

Regardless if they do or not, this week has become one of the most-watched weeks of 2023 for World of Warcraft, and viewership will only continue to rise as the event progresses.
