The 2022 calendar of video game releases seems fairly promising, with plenty of exciting titles set to be published later in the year. To help you keep up with the busy schedule, Streams Charts made a list of the biggest and most anticipated game releases of 2022.  

Pokemon Legends: Arceus

January 

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction — January 20 

(PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Stadia, PC) 

A cooperative multiplayer tactical shooter and a spinoff of Rainbow Six Siege by Ubisoft, in which players work together to combat and defeat parasite-like aliens called the Archæans. 

Pokemon Legends: Arceus (Switch) — January 28

An action RPG developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. It is a part of the eighth generation of the Pokémon series and serves as a prequel to Pokémon Diamond and Pearl from 2006. The game features usual Pokémon gameplay, with players capturing wild Pokémon in the overworld and engaging in battles. The major role in the story plays the mythical Pokémon Arceus.

In the seven days since its release, Pokémon Legends: Arceus set a marketplace record and ranked fourth on Twitch.

February

Dying Light 2 Stay Human — February 4 

(PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, PC) 

An action RPG by Techland. The sequel to Dying Light from 2015 features a zombie apocalyptic-themed open-world set 22 years after the story of its predecessor. 

Lost Ark (PC) — February 11

A fantasy MMOARPG co-developed by Tripod Studio and Smilegate, originally released in South Korea in 2019. It won six game awards in various categories at the Korea Game Awards 2019. Recently published in Europe and the Americas by Amazon Games, Lost Ark started reaching impressive viewership. Set in a vast, vibrant open-world, the Diablo-like title focuses on PvE and exploration, but also includes PvP elements and an adventurous storyline.

Total War: Warhammer III (PC) — February 17

Developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega, the third Total War title set in the Warhammer Fantasy universe features turn-based strategy and real-time tactics gameplay similar to other titles in the Total War series. The story is a conclusion of the trilogy set in the Realm of Chaos, the source of all magic in the Warhammer universe. 

Horizon Forbidden West (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4) — February 18

Horizon Forbidden West is a single-player, open-world action RPG developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. A sequel to 2017's Horizon Zero Dawn, the story is set in a post-apocalyptic version of the western United States populated by dangerous, animalistic machines.

Elden Ring (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC) — February 25

An action open-world RPG developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Set in the fantasy realm of the Lands Between, players will embark on a quest to restore this land with the hopes of becoming the Elden Lord.

Gran Turismo 7 (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4) — March 4

The eighth instalment in the Gran Turismo racing game series developed by Polyphony Digital and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. 

WWE 2K22 (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) — March 11

A professional wrestling game developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K Sports. It is the 22nd instalment of the series based on World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and the successor to 2019's WWE 2K20.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands — March 25

(PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC)

An action RPG first-person shooter developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games is a spinoff game for Borderlands 2’s character Tiny Tina. The typical Borderlands-style loot and open-world cooperative action with tons of guns, grenades and rocket launchers is complemented with magic, swords and crossbows. 

Ghostwire: Tokyo (PlayStation 5, PC) — March 25

A single-player action-adventure developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks. The story takes place in Tokyo after nearly all of its residents mysteriously vanish. Players have to use supernatural powers to combat ghosts that occupy the city.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga — April 5

(Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, Switch, PC)

A Lego-themed action-adventure game developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. It will be the sixth entry in the Lego Star Wars series that will cover all nine Star Wars movies and lets players choose from numerous playable characters from every era of the saga.

Evil Dead: The Game — May 13

(PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC) 

A survival horror developed by Saber Interactive and published by Boss Team Games, based on the Evil Dead horror film franchise, that features both cooperative gameplay and PvP combat.

Forspoken (PlayStation 5, PC) — May 24

An action single-player RPG developed by Luminous Productions and published by Square Enix. The story features Frey Holland, a young woman from New York City who finds herself in a fantasy world where magical spells help her battle mutated creatures.

Mario Strikers: Battle League (Switch) — June 10

A soccer game (also known as Mario Strikers: Battle League Football), developed by Next Level Games and published by Nintendo features Mario-franchise characters in a 5v5 football game enriched with tackles and attacks and the use of various items to knock over the enemy. 

August 

Saints Row (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) — August 23

An action-adventure reboot of the Saints Row game series developed by Volition and published by Deep Silver. In an open-world, players complete missions to progress the story in the role of the gang boss, with most of the GTA-like gameplay revolving around driving and shooting. 

September 

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown — September 22

(PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC) 

The 21st title in the Test Drive racing series developed by KT Racing and published by Nacon and the third game in the franchise's open-world Unlimited sub-series. 

November

Starfield (Xbox Series X/S, PC) — November 11

An action single-player RPG developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. According to its creators, the game is supposed to be “something like Skyrim in space”, with the gameplay promising a next-generation experience set in a new space-themed world.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl (Xbox Series X/S, PC) — December 8

A single-player FPS survival horror developed and published by GSC Game World and the fourth game in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game series. Players will take the role of an illegal scavenger who inhabits a highly radioactive area outside of Chernobyl filled with mutants and anomalies.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel (Switch)

An untitled sequel to the action-adventure title from 2017 by Nintendo. The game will be the 20th instalment of The Legend of Zelda series and a direct follow-up to the previous game focused on the exploration of the fantasy kingdom Hyrule. 

Call of Duty 2022 

Although the upcoming title in the Call of Duty FPS franchise hasn’t yet been revealed, Activision confirmed that the 2022 title will be a sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare reboot which takes place in a realistic and modern setting of American and British special forces. 

Gotham Knights (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) 

An action RPG developed by WB Games Montréal and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Based on the DC Comics character Batman, the game's story takes place in Gotham City, after Batman's apparent death. Players take control of the Dark Knight's former partners and work together to restore justice in the city and prevent it from descending into chaos.

Hogwarts Legacy (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) 

An action RPG developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment under its Portkey Games label. The title is a long-anticipated game set in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter world, in which players design their characters and learn magic at Hogwarts during the 1800s. 

Redfall (Xbox Series X/S, PC)

An open-world action-adventure developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. The co-op shooter is set in a city overrun with vampires.

Sonic Frontiers (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC) 

A platformer developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega. It is the first game from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise to feature open-world gameplay. 

Lord of the Rings: Gollum (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC) 

A single-player stealth action-adventure game developed by Daedalic Entertainment and co-published with Nacon. The game based on Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy tells the story of the character Gollum before the events of the books.

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope (Switch)

A turn-based strategy adventure crossover between Nintendo's Mario and Ubisoft's Rabbids franchises and a sequel to 2017’s Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, developed and published by Ubisoft. Mario and his friends travel to different worlds to restore peace to the galaxy. 

God of War: Ragnarok (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4)

A single-player action-adventure, hack and slash title developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment will be the ninth instalment in the God of War series and the sequel to 2018’s game. Based on Norse mythology, the game is set in ancient Scandinavia and features main protagonists Kratos and his son Atreus, serving as the finale to the Norse era of the series. 

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PC) 

An action-adventure title developed by Rocksteady Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is a continuation of the Batman: Arkham series and the first game in the series not to feature Batman. The game stars Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and King Shark on a mission to defeat Brainiac. 

Kirby and the Forgotten Land (Switch) 

A platformer developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo will be the 17th instalment in the Kirby series. The player controls Kirby in an adventure through the Forgotten Land to rescue kidnapped Waddle Dees.

Company of Heroes 3 (PC)

An RTS and a sequel to Company of Heroes 2 developed by Relic Entertainment and published by Sega. Players take the role of Allied Forces during their invasion of North Africa and Italy in World War II. 

Kerbal Space Program 2 (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) 

A space flight simulator developed by Intercept Games and published by Private Division. The sequel to 2015's Kerbal Space Program builds on sandbox features of its predecessor while introducing new propulsion methods, habitation modules, orbital and planetary colonies, a multiplayer mode, as well as interstellar travel.
