Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 makes a strong Twitch debut, but falls short of Battlefield 6

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 makes a strong Twitch debut, but falls short of Battlefield 6

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, the latest entry in Activision’s franchise, finally launched on November 14. Fans jumped in immediately, and top creators followed suit. The game had a strong debut weekend on streaming platforms, quickly climbing into Twitch’s top categories.

On launch day, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 racked up more than 2.2 million Hours Watched on Twitch. That was enough to push the game into the No. 2 spot among the platform’s most-watched titles, trailing only ARC Raiders. Over the full launch weekend (November 14-16), the category surpassed 5.9 million Hours Watched. It also slipped five spots in the rankings, falling behind Escape from Tarkov, Counter-Strike, and League of Legends.

Overall, even with non-gaming categories like Just Chatting included, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 comfortably stayed within Twitch’s top 10 categories. The game landed in nearly the same spot when ranked by peak concurrent viewership, too.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s strong performance on Twitch was fueled in large part by top streamers and an active Twitch Drops campaign. Viewers could earn in-game cosmetic rewards — charms, blueprints, emblems and more — just by tuning in to the game’s streams.

The top Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 streamer in terms of total watch time was Seth “scump” Abner, a former professional player and now one of the franchise’s most popular content creators. Hot on his heels were fellow U.S. esports streamers Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro and Kris “Swagg” Lamberson. However, the record for peak concurrent viewers went to Spanish streamer Juan Alberto “IlloJuan” García, who drew over 40,100 live viewers.

Twitch continues to be the go-to platform for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 streams, topping both watch time and channel count. That said, the game also drew solid audiences on other platforms. On YouTube, the most-watched stream was by Alexandre “Gaules” Chiqueta, who pulled in 52,300 viewers. On Kick, Adin Ross led the pack with a peak of 47,700 concurrent viewers.

CoD: Black Ops 7 vs Battlefield 6 Viewership Comparison

Despite a solid launch, the new Call of Duty couldn’t match the audience reach of Battlefield 6, which hit stores a month earlier.

It’s worth noting that both games launched on a Friday, so we analyzed data from the release day through the first weekend for a fuller view. Across the board, Battlefield 6 outshined Call of Duty, logging twice as many Hours Watched and reaching a peak concurrent audience 3.5 times larger than its rival.

For now, Battlefield 6 is ahead, but that could change over time. Call of Duty remains one of North America’s most popular franchises and boasts a solid esports legacy.
