Samsung hosted a major online presentation Galaxy Unpacked 2024 on January 17. During this event, the company introduced its new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy24, as well as the models Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S24+. The event's livestreams lasted just under two hours and drew over 637.7K Peak Viewers.
Galaxy Unpacked 2024 was broadcasted on Samsung's official channels on YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok. This event was also covered by popular tech bloggers and streamers, including Wylsacom, TheRealKnossi, Alexelcapo, and BaityBait.
Canadian streamer Pokimane participated as a co-host in the presentation, delivering a brief speech from the stage on the appeal of the new smartphones for gamers. Fragments from the show of popular YouTuber MrBeast were also featured at the presentation, some of whose videos had been sponsored by Samsung in the past.
In addition to the new lineup of Samsung smartphones, the company also unveiled the artificial intelligence technology called Galaxy AI. Its Live Translate feature offers real-time translation into English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Polish during phone conversations.
Among other interesting innovations are Chat Assist, Note Assist, and Circle of Search, where artificial intelligence will also be utilized. It will provide suggested responses to messages in messaging apps or assist in searching for Google images and videos, all with a simple touch on the screen. Thus, here's no longer a need to take a screenshot and upload it to Google Lens to recognize text or images; it's sufficient to just outline the desired area on the screen.
During the Samsung presentation, an enhanced version of Quick Share was also introduced. Now, with its assistance, users can swiftly send photos, videos, and various file types to individuals beyond the Galaxy ecosystem (available only for Android devices).
Interestingly, besides Samsung, the Twitch chats also saw a slight increase in mentions of other tech brands like Apple, Xiaomi, and Huawei. This is a common occurrence as viewers often compare smartphones from different companies during such announcements. Nevertheless, in terms of the number of mentions, Samsung and Apple still significantly outpaced other brands.
The Galaxy Unpacked 2024 presentation demonstrated impressive audience engagement; however, in terms of viewership, it still couldn't surpass Apple's September event when the iPhone 15 was unveiled.
Samsung has consistently been an active supporter of the esports industry, sponsoring professional teams and events since the days of StarCraft: BroodWar. Currently, the company actively promotes its products among gamers, utilizing esports tournaments as part of its strategy. For instance, it organized the Samsung Odyssey Invitational series featuring championships in Apex Legends and Fortnite, as well as the Samsung Galaxy Battles tournaments for mobile titles.
