Mario Day, also stylized as MAR10 DAY, is a celebration of the Super Mario franchise every year on March 10. Originally a fan idea, the phenomenon picked up so much steam it is now celebrated thoroughly by Nintendo with special discounts and activities for many of Nintendo's various products. To celebrate Mario Day this year, Streams Charts has collected viewership statistics for the entire franchise last year.
Across the last year, the Super Mario franchise accumulated well over 128M Hours Watched in the livestreaming industry. Most of this viewership came from Twitch, but of course the franchise receives ample support from Japanese streamers on YouTube, too.
Comparatively, Mario vastly outperformed other Nintendo franchises such as Zelda and Splatoon, but Pokémon was the reigning champion of Nintendo’s products in livestreaming viewership. With almost 400 total games under the Pokémon name, it accumulated over 180.7M Hours Watched.
Of the countless Mario games released over the years, the multiplayer Mario Kart 8 Deluxe title was the most-watched in 2024. The game stood far ahead of other Mario games, and generally, multiplayer titles, or at least titles with community-made levels like Super Mario Maker 2, were more popular than the singleplayer games.
Speaking of singleplayer titles, Super Mario World and especially Super Mario 64 stood out from the crowd as some of the franchise’s most legendary titles, which still to this day receive massive viewership. These games, which both released roughly 30 years ago, still dominate the livestreaming community thanks to their avid speedrunning communities. バトラ (batora324) was the most-watched Super Mario 64 streamer of 2024, and he is also one of the top speedrunners for the 120 Star category.
The top Mario streamers of the year is a competitive listing of the industry’s top creators, highlighting influencers from all sides of the globe. The ranking is largely divided into three kinds of creators: avid Mario fanatics, speedrunning events or players, and popular Japanese streamers.
バトラ was the leading streamer for the Mario franchise in 2024, having accumulated over 5.59M Hours Watched. He was followed by BarbarousKing and Aurateur, who stood quite a bit behind him. These two American creators have built their success on top of the Mario franchise, and have since expanded into broadcasting other titles. Nevertheless, their Mario franchise streams are still highly-watched, and they are two of the most popular English-language Mario creators in the industry.
VTubers from Japan such as Pekora Ch. 兎田ぺこら, Subaru Ch. 大空スバル, and Miko Ch. さくらみこ were highly-watched thanks to their massive personal fan bases. These VTubers from hololive participated in collaborative events such as their agency’s annual Mario Kart tournament, as well as hosting casual streams of single-player titles like Super Mario Bros. 3. The official organization channel for VTubing agency NIJISANJI (にじさんじ) was also highly popular, thanks to their own Mario Kart tournament.
While our Hours Watched ranking provides us a list of the most-watched creators throughout the entire year, peak viewership instead highlights a single moment in time. Rather than featuring popular Mario franchise creators, this ranking instead highlights highly popular content creators who, generally, briefly broadcasted a Mario title.
The top of this ranking was dominated by VTubers, thanks to their collaborative Mario Kart events. Towa Ch. 常闇トワ and Okayu Ch. 猫又おかゆ were the top creators on this list thanks to them being the hosts for hololive’s 2024 Mario Kart tournament. Other special events which dominated this ranking includes NIJISANJI’s Mario Kart tournament, which boosted the viewership of both their official channel and their highly popular streamer Kuzuha Channel, and special speedrunning events.
GamesDoneQuick and RTAinJapan found themselves in the middle of our ranking thanks to their respective charity speedrunning events. While RTAinJapan was originally thought up as a Japanese alternative to the established American GamesDoneQuick, it came quite close to dethroning the most popular speedrunning event.
Kai Cenat was the odd-one-out here, as the only non-Japanese creator to rank so highly in this list. The American hosted a games night featuring his content creator group AMP, and their short play session of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe reached over 74K Peak Viewers on Kai’s channel.
The Super Mario franchise is arguably gaming’s most well-known series of games, and beloved around the world. The franchise still dominates the livestreaming industry, and even games released over 30 years ago continue to outperform the viewership of newer released titles from other companies. We hope you had a happy Mario Day 2025, and tuned in to your favourite streamers’ celebration.
