September 12 witnessed the latest edition of the popular Nintendo Direct series, which usually discloses information about upcoming content or franchises, such as games and consoles. It was livestreamed across multiple platforms by channels worldwide, reaching a peak of almost three million concurrent viewers.
The Nintendo Direct - 12.09.2025, which ran for almost one and a half hours, was filled with exciting announcements. Fans were given crucial details about the Switch and Switch 2 alongside a glimpse into how Nintendo would celebrate Super Mario Bros.' 40th anniversary next year.
Nintendo confirmed that both the Super Mario Galaxy games would be arriving on the Switch 2 and made official that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be released on April 3, 2026. There were also announcements about Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, a new Fire Emblem game, and a new Donkey Kong Bananza DLC, among other things.
This presentation reached 2.9 million Peak Viewers (PV) during the Resident Evil Requiem's new trailer reveal and Switch 2 release date, putting it among Nintendo Direct's four most popular editions so far. Two of the three top entries have come in the past two years, including the record-shattering Switch 2 reveal.
The official Japanese channel did most of the heavy lifting here, notching 1.5M PV to end among the week's most popular channels. Among the well-known streamers to cover the showcase were star LoL co-caster Marc "caedrel" Lamont, prominent German gaming influencer Maximilian "Maximilian Dood" Christiansen, and the popular French music composer/producer, Xavier "mistermv" Dang.

The September 12 Nintendo Direct also notched 3.2 million Hours Watched (HW), making it the series' second-most watched iteration. This made it the second-most consistently watched showcase, led by announcements about the Japanese multinational video game company's top IPs.
Among gaming showcases held this year, the latest Nintendo Direct now sits in the third spot by peak live viewers. It just edged out the recent Apple Event 2025, which notched a peak of 2.8 million watching simultaneously during the iPhone 17 reveal.
Thanks to the regular presentations of its legendary and beloved franchises, Nintendo continues to remain atop the video gaming industry's news cycle. It is also hard to see any similar upcoming showcase beat this mark for the rest of the year, unless there is some massive news coming out of one of the top companies in the world.
