Twitch May 2024 results — new records from Kai Cenat and Kings World Cup ambassadors

Twitch May 2024 results — new records from Kai Cenat and Kings World Cup ambassadors
Share:

Kai Cenat emerged as the most-watched streamer on Twitch for May by a significant margin. Meanwhile, Aminematue hosted the month's most popular broadcast. While the top categories mainly remained unchanged, the streamer rankings saw notable shifts. Many content creators' positions were significantly influenced by the Kings World Cup, a media soccer championship that recently kicked off in Mexico.

In May, Twitch recorded over 1.63 billion hours of watch time, a figure nearly on par with April's. Peak and average viewership showed little change, but the number of channels dropped by 5-8%. This decline can be attributed to various factors, such as seasonal trends — approaching summer, more individuals tend to engage in outdoor activities rather than streaming indoors. While this shift doesn't heavily impact Twitch's total viewership, it does result in slight decreases ranging from 1-5%.

The popularity rankings of Twitch sections have mostly stayed the same since April, with most categories experiencing a slight decrease in viewership hours. However, League of Legends saw a 10% increase due to the Mid-Season Invitational 2024 broadcasts. Apex Legends grew significantly, accumulating 30.5 million HW in May thanks to the ALGS: 2024 Split 1 Playoffs and its 21st in-game season launch.

A standout performer was Elden Ring, which generated an impressive 25.7 million HW in May, largely due to Kai Cenat's marathon. This American streamer's activity propelled the Elden Ring section from 32nd to 10th place in the rankings. Conversely, Rust and Rainbow Six Siege dropped out of the top ten.

In May, Kai Cenat emerged as the top Twitch streamer, amassing an impressive 19.4 million HW, more than double his April numbers. This surge in popularity was fueled by his Elden Ring marathon and engaging streams featuring celebrity guests. For example, towards the end of the month, he co-hosted a broadcast with renowned comedian and actor Kevin Hart, reaching 393K Peak Viewers, a new milestone for Kai Cenat.

In the top 10 channels, ibai, Caedrel, Aminematue, and Tarik showed the most progress compared to the previous month. The first three saw increased views from broadcasting MSI 2024 and Kings World Cup, while Tarik streamed matches from VCT regional leagues and the VCT Masters Shanghai 2024.

American streamer Jynxzi deserves a mention, having been the most-watched streamer on the platform in April. However, in May, his watch time halved, causing him to drop from first to tenth place. This decline can partly be attributed to reduced airtime as it decreased by 34%. Additionally, fps_shaka fell from second to eighth place, and eliasn97Papaplattekato_junichi0817, and Baiano dropped out of the top 10.

French streamer Aminematue led in peak viewership for May, with his Kings World Cup broadcast attracting 572.4K concurrent viewers, his second-highest result ever. Italian streamer Tumblurr also set a personal record with 237K peak concurrent viewers, as his team was represented in the media football tournament. Overall, Kings World Cup broadcasts significantly influenced the May rankings, with four streamers from the top 6 achieving their highest viewership while covering this event.

The official Riot Games channel was the sole organization channel to make it into the top monthly rankings by watch time, thanks to the MSI 2024. In terms of peak viewership, Riot Games and the dota2_paragon_ru, which streamed matches from PGL Wallachia Season 1 and DreamLeague Season 23, made it to the top.

The top streamers by peak concurrent viewership closely reflect the overall platform's rankings for the month. The only distinction is that when excluding organizations, channels Jynxzi and kato_junichi0817 secure the ninth and tenth spots respectively in the top 10.

Most Watched Female Streamers on Twitch, May 2024

Ironmouse maintained her position as the most-watched female Twitch streamer, with her channel accumulating 2.7 million HW in May, marking a 70% increase from the previous month. She primarily streamed content related to Minecraft, Fallout: New Vegas, and Rust.

Jinnytty and Emiru experienced notable rises in the female rankings. Jinnytty documented her travels in Japan and participated in the CYCLEATHON charity bike ride, while Emiru actively engaged in games such as League of Legends, Street Fighter 6, and Rust. In contrast, Japanese VTubers akamikarubi and akarindao slipped from second and seventh positions in April to eighth and eleventh in May.

Mexican streamer Rivers_gg claimed the top spot for peak viewership, attracting 62.6K viewers during a tabletop gaming session with friends. Rivers also covered matches of her team, PIO FC, in the Kings World Cup, contributing to her impressive viewership numbers for the month. Alondrissa secured the second position in the top rankings, achieving a record peak viewership of 57.7K during a late-night stream with friends, engaging in discussions and interactions with the audience.

A noteworthy mention goes to Mexican streamer Alanalarana, who debuted in the top 10 female rankings with 28.4K PV in May. She achieved this milestone through her coverage of the Kings World Cup, where she serves as an ambassador for the Raniza FC team.
