Twitch September 2024 results — The International channels topped the rankings by watch time
Share:

September was packed with major esports tournaments and events — last month featured The International 2024, the new WoW’s Race to World First, and the kickoff of the 2024 World Championship. As a result, League of Legends, Dota 2, and World of Warcraft solidified their spots at the top of the charts.

September is also known for Twitch’s annual SUBtember campaign, where viewers can snag subscriptions to their favorite streamers at a big discount all month long. During this time, content creators ramp up their efforts, hosting marathons, promotions, and events to draw in more viewers. This year, several marathons took place, including ones from streamers like FaZe, Ironmouse, and participants from ZEvent 2024

Notably, only one streamer from Spain, Rubius, made it into the September rankings, setting a personal record for audience size during the reveal of his own Fortnite skin. Meanwhile, well-known streamers like ibaiGaulesKaiCenatJynxzi, and tarik found themselves outside the top 10 this time around.

The average number of viewers on the platform saw a slight uptick compared to August, but the number of active channels dropped by 8%. This is largely due to seasonal trends: after the summer, the number of channels usually takes a dip. For instance, in September 2022, the figure also fell by 8%, and in September 2023, it decreased by 6%.

In September, nearly all the shifts in the category rankings were tied to major esports tournaments. For instance, the League of Legends section gained traction thanks to the final matches in the regional leagues LCK, LCS, and CBLOL, along with the kickoff of the Play-In stage for the 2024 World Championship.

The Dota 2 section jumped four spots, boosted by broadcasts of the season's flagship tournament, The International 2024. World of Warcraft has been climbing the rankings for the second month in a row, largely due to the release of The War Within expansion and the Race to World First event, which featured all the top guilds in the game.

The football simulator EA Sports FC25 was launched toward the end of September, but within just a few days, it racked up enough watch time to break into the top 10 categories.

Most Watched Channels on Twitch, September 2024

The top most-watched channels in September were dominated by two official streams featuring English and Russian broadcasts of The International 2024. Together, they racked up over 20 million Hours Watched, making up about a third of the game's total. Also making a strong showing was Russian streamer Nix, the most popular community caster for Dota 2, who provided coverage of TI as well.

Several spots in the top 10 were taken by members of FaZe: stableronaldoplaqueboymax, and Lacy made the list thanks to a massive 24-hour marathon that ran throughout September. During the month, these and other FaZe streamers kept viewers entertained with collaborative activities, parties, challenges, and giveaways to attract as many subscribers as possible.

Japanese streamer kato_junichi0817 not only secured a high ranking overall for September but also set a new record for peak viewers among Japanese streamers on the platform. His popularity skyrocketed when he opened up about his family drama and marital issues.

The channel Echo_Esports made the ranking due to broadcasts of Race to World First: Nerub'ar Palace. Although the Echo guild didn’t manage to defeat the mythic boss Queen Ansurek first — Team Liquid achieved that milestone earlier — Echo’s channel became the most popular in the World of Warcraft section.

German streamer eliasn97 racked up over 8.1 million HW thanks to football. Throughout the month, he hosted numerous streams of EA Sports FC 25 and covered matches from the new media football league, Icon League.

The biggest peak viewership in September came from Spanish streamer Rubius — his stream showcasing his branded Fortnite skin drew over 389,000 viewers at peak.

Most Watched Female Streamers on Twitch, September 2024

The most-watched female streamer on Twitch in September was ironmouse, whose channel racked up over 6.3 million HW throughout the month. This impressive achievement was primarily due to her record-breaking charity subathon, which kicked off on September 1 and is still ongoing.

In contrast to ironmouse, the results for other female streamers were relatively modest, and the lineup in the top rankings didn’t change much. By the end of the month, akamikarubi, Jinnytty, and asianbunnyx saw slight gains, while Kyedae took a significant hit after her strong showing in August, which was boosted by community casting for Valorant Champions 2024. Notably, nicoleheart23, a Russian-speaking Dota 2 streamer, made the top list by covering The International 2024.

This month, several French streamers — helydiaAVAMindLittleBigWhale, and Pressea — ranked high in peak viewership among female streamers. This spike in activity was due to their participation in the large charity event ZEvent 2024, organized by popular streamer ZeratoR. The event aimed to raise funds for various charities that support low-income and needy individuals, and over three days, they managed to collect more than 10 million euros. Dozens of popular (and emerging) streamers from France participated, setting personal records on their channels thanks to ZEvent 2024.
