Streams Charts has reviewed the spring season on Twitch, highlighting the platform's key trends. Esports sections and community casters experienced significant growth, driven by the onset of the tournament season across various games. Among popular streamers, Kai Cenat emerged as a trendsetter, hosting several impressive gaming marathons and collaborating with celebrities for joint streams.
Most Growing Categories on Twitch — Spring 2024
Valorant saw the largest growth compared to winter, generating 63.1 million more Hours Watched in spring. This increase was driven by the start of regional partner leagues and two major international tournaments: VCT 2024: Masters Madrid and VCT 2024: Masters Shanghai. Valve's Counter-Strike ranked second, with Hours Watched increasing by 46.3 million, largely due to esports events, particularly the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024.
A probably unexpected entry in the top rankings is Elden Ring, which saw a significant rise in watch time thanks to a 100-hour marathon by Kai Cenat. Another surprising addition is Supermarket Simulator, which recently went viral on the platform. Many top Twitch streamers played it, including Caseoh, Ibai, Ironmouse, Gaules, and Rubius.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth also experienced significant growth, thanks to the likes of Maximilian_DOOD, CohhCarnage, and several Japanese VTubers, who collectively spent hundreds of hours streaming this new PlayStation exclusive.
In terms of percentage growth, the survival game V Rising from Stunlock Studios saw the largest increase this spring. The game's section on Twitch grew by an astounding 2489% after V Rising entered full access in May 2024. Many popular streamers, including CohhCarnage, elxokas, ZeratoR, and others, streamed the game.
The space sandbox game The Planet Crafter experienced a 1803% increase in watch time, significantly boosted by joint streams from top French streamers Locklear, Squeezie, and JLTomy.
New titles or those that have just exited early access typically show the largest percentage growth. The current meta also plays a significant role. For example, the Fallout series experienced substantial growth this spring, with interest spiking after the release of the TV series based on the game's lore.
