Having mostly ceded to esports events in the April rankings, other genres were able to make a comeback the next month. However, competitive gaming competitions maintained their stranglehold of the summit of these rankings, with League of Legends and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang continuing to dominate the landscape. Fans also saw a lot more VTubers make their presence felt in May, with Western a favorite also returning to the fold after missing out in the previous listings.
Top YouTube Gaming channels in May 2024
MPL Indonesia won the battle for the first spot in May, exchanging spots with the LCK to help MLBB reign supreme for a month at least. What helped the former was that it ran throughout the month, with its viewership stats once again shooting through the roof, meaning followers can expect a few records to fall by the end of the Grand Final on June 9.
The Korean account, meanwhile, covered the Mid-Season Invitational 2024 across the first three weeks, with a home winner in the form of Gen.G aiding in attracting thousands of extra spectators. A Korea-China Grand Final also helped the tournament set several new viewership records and reaffirmed the growing importance of community casting.
LoL did shade the top five count three to two, once again reiterating why these are the two most popular esports disciplines globally every year. While the Riot Games offering had Vietnam Championship Series - LMHT and the LoL Esports channels as its representatives, Moonton's title had the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Indonesia handle broadcasting the action live and accruing 3.7M Hours Watched.
Hoàng Luân's presence in sixth was a result of his casting and covering the action across the LoL esports spectrum, especially the MSI 2024. IShowSpeed ensured he was busy enough to make the overall top ten list this time after missing out in the last few rankings and only making the leaderboard by nationality.
Pekora Ch., Miko Ch., and Aqua Ch. ensured VTubers found a higher proportion of representation in May. The first name was the only one from her community to find space in the April rankings, and she'll be happy that she and her colleagues' hard work has helped them come back stronger and in numbers.
When looking at only streamers, apart from the five names mentioned above, we have the likes of R7 Tatsumaki and LoLzZz Gaming whose content ranges from games like Battlegrounds Mobile India to MLBB. Of course, the former is an ex-pro gamer in his chosen discipline who has been on the books of RRQ Hoshi for a while, with his streams regularly pulling in thousands of viewers.
The other three spots have gone to VTubers, further cementing a comeback to these rankings after a fallow April. Koyori ch., Subaru Ch., and Kuzuha Channel have all been among the top names in their community and continue to grow and add followers thanks to their craft.
YouTube Gaming US streamers in May 2024
With IShowSpeed returning to the top, April's topper, and another massive name in North America, DrDisRespect, had to settle for the second spot, with his watch time seeing a negligible drop. Rounding off the podium is TimTheTatman, another regular in such leaderboards who jumped two spots thanks to a solid spike of 55% in his monthly HW numbers.
As a result, everyone's favorite, Valkyrae, slipped out of the top three and had to settle for fifth this time as her less airtime saw her watch time fall as well. It was the same for Ludwig, third in April but sixth here as he has been busy with his various ventures that prevented him from streaming as much as he did the previous month.
KreekCraft was another beneficiary of the misfortunes of the above two as he rose to fourth after seeing a 59% jump in his Hours Watched stats. Fuslie, TenZ, and Swagg retained their top ten spots, while FaZe Clan's ZooMaa Live was the biggest mover as a 105% hike in watch time helped him climb into May's top ten leaderboard.
YouTube Gaming European channels in May 2024
ESL continued its reign atop the European leaderboard thanks to its live broadcasts of Counter-Strike matches. The tournament organizer's Dota 2 channel also made it to the top ten, albeit a lot lower than April, when it was on the podium.
These two games dominated these rankings, with two more channels that showcase their games — PGL, SL4M & Counter-Strike, and Paragon Events Dota 2 Live RU — finding spots. Two of these catered to Russian audiences, whose love for both titles disciplines continues to be part of esports lore.
There's also WirtualTV, the Trackamania content creator and player whose live streams typically attract thousands of spectators. There are also two Russian channels that cover a lot of World of Tanks, another game that enjoys a massive following in that country and an underrated esports scene globally.
Most watched esports channels in May 2024
Most of these entries have been spoken about earlier in this article, but it has to be noted once again how prevalent LoL and MLBB are when it comes to the most watched channels. Six of the top ten are handles covering various events and competitions of the two most popular esports disciplines today.
Liên Quân Mobile eSports-Garena is the channel that covers Garena Liên Quân Mobile, the Vietnamese version of Arena of Valor. The list is rounded out by PUBG MOBILE Indonesia and KRAFTON INDIA ESPORTS, representing two versions of the same game in two crucial regions for battle royale mobile esports.
