On the back of two successful months in June and July, Kick has been flying high. The green platform has gradually been building a reputation as the third-best livestreaming service behind Twitch and YouTube, and it began August with yet another viewership milestone.
Thanks to a boxing event, labeled "The Golden Night" by creator Andy "Zein" Merino, the Stake-backed platform hit a new peak concurrent viewership record of 2,556,123 Peak Viewers (PV) over the weekend. The August 2 broadcast of the influencer-led competition contributed significantly to this milestone, drawing around 1.36 million peak live viewers on its own.
The boxing spectacle, held at the Eduardo Dibós Coliseum in Lima, Peru, was loaded with content creation stars from the region, with French Spanish sensation Shadoune666, known for his Spanish Minecraft content, being a special entrant. It also featured musical performances from artists like Carlos "Tomate" Barraza (Peruvian television personality, singer, and former actor), 6 Volts (Peruvian punk rock band), M2H (Peruvian progressive rap band ), and A.CHAL (Peruvian-American singer and songwriter).
The card for the night was:
- Marx "Glogloking" Loayza (winner) vs Gabriel "Shadoune666" Perez
- Smash (winner) vs Abraham "Kingteka" Gil
- Zully vs Valentina "LaPinky" (winner)
- Alonso "Fanodric" (winner) vs Dafonsec
- CristoRata vs Cañita (winner)
Peruvian star Zein has emerged as one of Kick's most consistent and reliable streamers over the past two years. His popularity has earned him a massive following among Latin American audiences, with this fame even seeing him collaborate with Darren "IShowSpeed" Watkins Jr during the American YouTube megastar's tour of South America earlier this year.
This rise in global stocks has also seen Zein branch out into business and entrepreneurship, not unlike many other online stars like Ibai "ibai" Llanos. This includes owning a team in the highly successful Kings League's Americas tournament, Persas FC, which has reached the final and semifinal once each across three splits.
It remains to be seen how big elzeein can make his boxing event, which is undoubtedly based on ibai's record-shattering La Velada del Año series. If it can achieve even a fraction of the popularity and livestreaming success of the latter, The Golden Night could very well carve a space for itself on the annual sports/entertainment calendar.
